My story

I was nine months and weight only 6,5 kg when I arrived at the Zanethemba Safe Haven. I had scabies, was sick, weak and floppy. Quickly I started to gain weight and I became stronger… and extremely active.

Sinakho Day-Care

a Day-Care for underprivileged children

Sinakho is a Day-Care for underprivileged children in Area Q, Walmer Township. Twenty children, between the ages of 1 and 6 years old, are loved and cared for at our Day-Care. Besides the protection, they receive nutritious meals and snacks. Their development is stimulated through the daily play-time and educational activities.

By means of daily contact and meetings with the children’s parents, we try to build relationships with them and aim to support them in raising their children. The selection of the children that attend the Day-Care happens through an interview process during home visits. The backgrounds of children that currently attend the Day-Care are: single working mothers, children that are cared for by people other than their parents, both parents work, parents that go to the rubbish dump, a single mother that is HIV+, severely neglected children due to home circumstances (parents continuously drunk).

Our values
We strive to give all our Sinakho kids loving and good quality care. We aim to create a Safe place to play, a Secure structure to grow into a young person and a Stimulating environment in which to develop.

Our Day-Care is the stable factor in the unstable lives of our Sinakho kids.
